Read Me January 27, 2000 OVERVIEW Welcome to the Service Training CD! The training courses and modules contained on this CD will prepare you for certification as an Apple service technician. This CD contains all courseware from the Service Training Online site as of January 27, 2000. Because we frequently update Service Training courses, be sure to check our home page regularly for the latest material. These courses include links to many online resources that you will find useful in both your training and in troubleshooting and repairing Apple products. In order to access these online materials while using this CD, you must have an active Internet connection. Although you can complete a majority of the course exercises without Internet access, working with an active Internet link will give you the best possible training experience. SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS Recommended system configuration for accessing the Service Training CD: Power Macintosh computer running Mac OS 8.5 (or later) ¥ Web browser with JavaScript enabled, such as: - Netscape Communicator 4.5 (or later) - Netscape Navigator 4.0.8 (or later) - Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 (or later) ¥ Monitor or display capable of displaying a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and thousands of colors ¥ 4X (quad speed or faster) CD-ROM drive ¥ QuickTime 3.0 (or later) You will need the QuickTime Plug-In installed in the browser plug-ins folder. ¥ Acrobat 3.0 (or later) To take advantage of the many external links that are included in the training, you will also need access to the Internet (a 28.8 Kbps connection, or faster, is highly recommended). OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS The following tips should improve your systemÕs performance while using this CD: ¥ If you will be connected to the Internet while using this CD, open your Internet connection before launching the CD. ¥ Clear the browserÕs cache before starting the training. ¥ Increase your browserÕs memory allocation ten percent or higher above its default setting. ¥ Increase your browserÕs cache allocation above its default setting. ¥ Turn off virtual memory. ¥ Make sure that your browserÕs PDF and QuickTime plug-ins are enabled. (Information about setting up Internet Explorer and Netscape to handle PDF documents can be found at the Adobe Web site (http://www.adobe.com). Tips for QuickTime installation can be found at http://www.apple.com/quicktime.) ¥ Allow pages to load completely before proceeding to other pages. NOTE: If you receive any error messages, make sure that your system is configured according to the system and browser recommendations stated above.
