Colibricks Version 1.3 Copyright 2000-2001 Michel Colman, all rights reserved This document, plus the files "FAQ" (Frequently asked questions) and "Register" must always accompany any copy of Colibricks! Important legal information is included below, under "Legal Stuff". What is Colibricks? Colibricks is a next-generation Brick game. The object of the game is to destroy all the bricks on the screen by bouncing one or more balls against them. When a ball hits a brick, the brick is destroyed. Some bricks require multiple hits, and others carry special effects, slowing the ball down, speeding it up, splitting it into multiple balls, etc... Yet other bricks release prize balloons which give you extra points or special equipment (laser, magnet) What makes Colibricks different? Indeed, Colibricks is not the first game of this type. However, there are many enhancements not found in other games: 1. The bricks don't have to be horizontal. Colibricks has rotated bricks, even forming circles and spirals. 2. Balls don't have a fixed size. They can grow or shrink to any size. 3. Each ball's trajectory is calculated extremely precisely. When a ball hits a corner, it will bounce back at an angle depending on the exact point of impact. So a ball may hit a corner horizontally and bounce almost straight down. 4. Balls bounce with each other. Again, precise mathematical formulas are used to calculate the result of a collision. Big balls have a higher mass, so they tend to bounce the little ones around quite violently. 5. The graphics are beautiful and antialiased. Bricks are 3D objects with correct lighting depending on their rotation. Balls move smoothly, even at extremely low speeds. Colibricks also has beautiful backgrounds. 6. You can save games, and there's even a training mode where you can practice specific levels and even make the game go slower or faster! System requirements Hardware: Macintosh with 200 MHz PPC 603e or higher (604, G3, iMac, iBook, G4,...) Software: Quicktime, any system version (including MacOS X) Memory: 12 MB free I have had one report of Colibricks working perfectly on a 150 MHz machine, so even if your computer doesn't meet the requirements, you can always try running the demo anyway! If display isn't smooth, try switching off "VBL Sync" in the settings menu. VBL sync usually gives smoother graphics, but is actually counterproductive in certain configurations. (VBL sync doesn't work yet on OS X) In classic MacOS (before MacOS X), Virtual memory is best switched off. With Virtual memory on, you may notice slight delays in the sounds and occasional small hickups on the screen. This depends on the computer, and you may not even notice it. Ram Doubler may cause the graphics to become choppy, so it is best switched off as well. Incompatibilities Ram Doubler may cause the graphics to become choppy (not fluent). I'm trying to find a solution for this. Meanwhile, it is best to switch off Ram Doubler in the extensions manager. Apple's standard virtual memory seems to work much better for Colibricks, although the timing for sounds may become a bit irregular. Otherwise, I am currently under the impression that Colibricks works perfectly, without any bugs. If you have ANY problem with Colibricks (crash, motion not fluent, torn graphics, etc.) please let me know, so I can do something about it! Otherwise, I will just continue to live happily thinking everything is OK, and the bugs never get fixed. You can always e-mail me at MichelColman@kagi.com. Thanks! Registering Colibricks Without registering, you can play 6 of the 50 levels: the first three, plus three higher levels. After registering, you can play all of the 50 levels. Registration costs 16 US Dollars. The registration code is personal, and may not be shared with anyone. Every customer gets a different code, so we can tie the code to the person who paid for it. Via the internet: http://order.kagi.com/?3KQ Via mail, fax, telephone, e-mail, etc.: Open the "Register" program that accompanies Colibricks. Enter your name, your address, E-mail address, and the number of registration codes you wish to buy. You may enter a bonus amount if you want to give something extra. Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi, who handles my payment processing. More specifics on the Register program to follow. If paying with Credit Card, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number. Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement. If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is: Kagi 1442-A Walnut Street #392-3KQ Berkeley, California 94709-1405 USA You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical. If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on my behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end. Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email and without the payment, the form cannot be processed. Payments sent via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed. If you do not have an email address, please enter your complete postal address and please remember, we do not know what country you live in so please enter that into the postal address also. If you do not have an email address you should consider selecting the Postcard Receipt so that Kagi can inform you of your registration code. Kagi transmits the registration codes via email and paid postcard receipt only. Legal Stuff This is a legal document covering your use of Colibricks.
