Double-click the ÒRB Ages 6-7 SetupÓ icon on the CD to install these files. To run the program, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive and double-click on the ÒReading Blaster Ages 6-7Ó icon located on the CD. **Note: It is important that you do not rename the folder which contains the Reading Blaster data. If the name of any of the folders in which the data resides is changed, or the hard drive which contains the folder is renamed, you may need to run setup again to play Reading Blasterª Ages 6-7. If you wish to use Kiddesk95 to control your childÕs access to your computer, you will need to attach the file ÒRB Ages 6-7Ó located inside the ÒBlasterÓ/ÓLibsÓ folder on your CD. UNINSTALLING READING BLASTER Ages 6-7 ********************************* To remove Reading Blaster Ages 6-7 from your system, simply drag (a) the "RB6-7" folder only from the "Knowledge Adventure User Data"/"Documents" folder on your hard drive, and, (b) the "RB Ages 6-7", and "Reading Blaster Ages 6-7" folders only from the "System Folder"/ "Preferences"/"Knowledge Adventure" on your hard drive into the trash. NOTE: It is recommended that you do not move or remove the folder ÒSmart PointsÓ located in the ÒKnowledge Adventure User DataÓ/ÓDocumentsÓ folder on your hard drive. If the ÒSmart PointsÓ folder is deleted, Smart Points may not work correctly within the program. To solve this problem, reinstall the program. SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TIPS ********************** If the ÒLargest Unused BlockÓ does not have 12000 K or greater, Virtual Memory should be turned ON when using the program. To enable Virtual Memory, click the Apple Menu, scroll down to Control Panels, then choose Memory. Turn on Virtual Memory by selecting the ON radio button. Directly below the ÒAvailable built-in memoryÓ is a box indicating the current Virtual Memory setting. Adjust the number to be one or more greater than the ÒBuilt-in MemoryÓ to account for the ÒLargest Unused BlockÓ difference. But do not exceed twice the ÒAvailable built-in MemoryÓ (e.g. if you have 32 MB built-in, do not surpass 64 MB). Once you have allocated the systemÕs memory, restart the system. This will likely be a necessity even after turning off unneeded extensions (to free up memory) due to the sizes of Mac OS 7.x and 8.x and Knowledge AdventureÕs Reading Blasterª Ages 6-7. If you have any questions concerning the use of Virtual Memory please consult the system manual, or the Apple Guide Topic on Memory. The Modern Memory Manager in the Memory control panel should be turned ON regardless of available memory. **Note: The Modern Memory Manager is always on with system 7.6 and up and therefore not selectable. SmartPoints ------------ 1. When using America Online¨ for your Internet Service Provider, you must connect to AOL Prior to running Reading Blaster Ages 6-7 in order to Register or Update SmartPoints. 2. If you're having problems connecting to the internet from within Reading Blaster Ages 6-7 try connecting to your ISP prior to launching the program. For more information about SmartPoints, go to http://www.blasternaut.com EXTENSIONS AND CONTROL PANELS *************************** Optimize the programÕs performance by selecting Extensions Manager (or another third-party extensions manager, such as Conflict Catcher or Startup Manager) from Control Panels under the Apple menu. Uncheck any Extensions or Control Panels that are unnecessary for basic operation of the computer and CD-ROM drive. If an Extensions Manager cannot be found, go to the System Folder and drag the unnecessary Extensions from the ÒExtensionsÓ folder into a folder called ÒExtensions (disabled)Ó and the unnecessary Control Panels from the ÒControl PanelsÓ folder into a folder called ÒControl Panels (disabled),Ó then restart the computer. If you have any questions about which files are necessary, please consult the manual that came with your computer. PRINTING ******** If you are planning to print from Reading Blasterª Ages 6-7, it is very important that you have your printer selected in the Chooser before starting the program. We also suggest that you turn Background Printing OFF. GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS ************************** 1. If the program seems to be running slow or graphics do not appear properly: Close any unneccesary applications that may be running. The computer should have a minimum of 12000 K of available built-in memory to run the program. If you have trouble launching the Reading Blaster Ages 6-7 manual, try rebuilding your desktop, which involves holding down the option and command key when your computer is restarting. If needed, refer to your computerÕs documentation for a more in-depth explanation of this troubleshooting technique. 2. Screensavers If you are running a screensaver in the background and experience video and sound problems during the game, disable the screen saver and the problem should be solved. Refer to your computerÕs documentation on how to disable the screen saver. CALLING TECHNICAL SUPPORT *********************** It is essential to have the following information ready when you call: 1.
