2022 Nov 7 - 4:41am by ClockWyzass DISK-CATALOG COMPILATIONS sets sail for open waters 2022 Nov 7 - 12:25pm by MikeTomTom Truncated local links - for users of older browsers that barf on https (works for both http and https) by ClockWyzass - 2022, November 7 - 2:14pm The MEGA-CATALOGS download is for combined searching. Once a file is found during a search of the MEGA-CATALOG, clicking on the file in the search results reveals which disk it came from. (A MEGA-CATALOG still has all of the individual disks; they're just bundled together in one file.) If you want to search all possible disks, this is the only way to do so. In the CATALOGS download, the original catalog files are separated individually by a topical folder tree. If you only want to examine a specific catalog file, then you navigate through the folders to find it (or search for the name of the catalog file). Yes, catalogs that correspond to specific MG pages should have those catalogs uploaded to those pages, if possible. However, while some people will want to search catalogs for collections they personally own, most people merely want to find the file, regardless of its location, and they don't want to have to comb through dozens of different MG pages. Instead, they can just come to this page and download the whole collection. That's the entire point of a compilation--to collect everything in one convenient place. Also, many catalogs don't have MG pages, so what then? 2022 Nov 7 - 2:25pm by ClockWyzass I added some clarifications about the MEGA-CATALOG contents. 2022 Nov 7 - 6:14pm by ClockWyzass I added a hybrid DTx code. 2022 Nov 8 - 10:01pm by mrdav added the first of many tiny pieces of my large DTC catalog by mrdav - 2022, November 8 - 10:18pm OK, I have started by uploading a DTC for the Eagles Nest BBS collection (available on the Internet Archive). For us, I have presented the collection as Individual files rather than large file archives. These individual files can be downloaded from my mega.nz account at the link provided in the Get Info menu item in DiskTracker. I know the Mega is not accessible using older browsers but I have chosen to use it because it has fast uploads and it is easy for me to manage. I will be using Mega for collections that are easily presented as individual downloadable files suitable for transit, and for CD collections that are not readily downloadable from elsewhere. Unfortunately, the files on most CD/DVD collections need to be extracted in a classic Mac environment to ensure resource fork integrity and these are not convenient to provide clickable files for download from the large number of CD compilations without a lot of extra work. In those cases, I will provide a download link to the CD/DVD in the Get Info menu. This is what I will be doing, and clockwyzass I am sure you will combine the various offerings into an all-encompassing, conveniently usable catalog as well as other rearrangements. 2022 Nov 9 - 2:26am by ClockWyzass I refined the explanation about vintage-Mac cataloging software. Only DT and DCM export catalog files. by ClockWyzass - 2022, November 9 - 2:33am I revised the section on disk cataloging and listing apps. I never really used them much 20-30 years ago, so I didn't know a lot about them. But I just downloaded all of them and tried them out. Only DiskTracker and DiskCatalogManager create savable catalog files. The others only create simple text files or virtual disks. I also added type and creator codes and suffixes to all of the MG software links. Surprisingly, only DiskTracker 2.x uses a filename suffix (of .dtc), so it's the only one that can be searched for via text-based searches. Search engines that scan type and creator codes could find the others. by mrdav - 2022, November 9 - 3:01am Regarding the Eagles Nest archive, you will find that the archive names are often a bit strange, but most are Stuffit archives (but without a suffix). However the abbreviated naming is not a problem for searching the catalog as DiskTracker looks inside the sit/cpt/bin wrappers in its search results. 2022 Nov 9 - 3:29am by mrdav added AMUG DVD Collection.dtc by mrdav - 2022, November 9 - 3:31am Added AMUG DVD Collection.dtc. We have the DVD in the Garden, but who wants to download a whole DVD to get the file you want? Now you can go to the link in the Get Info menu item for this DTC and just download what you want. 2022 Nov 9 - 7:44pm by mrdav added FTPMacSoft catalog and mc68000.org catalog by mrdav - 2022, November 9 - 8:01pm Added FTPMACSoft Collection.dtc and MC68000.dtc The FTPMACSoft collection was rescued and uploaded to the Internet Archive as a massive 30GB archive. After identifying files that you want from the DTC I uploaded, go to the link I provided in the Get Info DT menu item to download the individual files that you want from this collection. No need to download 30 GB for get the files you want. Other archives (since disappeared), that were effectively mirrors of FTPMACSoft were the karelia archive and the victor3d archive. I copied them years ago but the differences from FTPMACSoft (if any) are too small to consider them for cataloging here. The second DTC that I uploaded just now is MC68000.dtc. This is an interesting collection that still exists online and you can download individual files from the link in the DT Get Info EDIT: Also uploaded DTCs of the online Info-Mac Archive and Umich Archive. Familiar old sites that are still on line but frozen in time. Easy to browse, but with DTCs for them now, you can search the archives using DT 2022 Nov 9 - 8:30pm by mrdav uploaded DTCs of the online Info-Mac Archive and Umich Archive 2022 Nov 9 - 8:30pm by mrdav uploaded DTCs of the online Info-Mac Archive and Umich Archive 2022 Nov 9 - 10:17pm by WhosIt.There Added a DiskTracker catalog for the MacFormat cover disks/CDs (issues 024 to 177). by WhosIt.There - 2022, November 9 - 10:18pm Added a DiskTracker catalog for the MacFormat cover disks/CDs (issues 024 to 177). As far as I know, that's the most complete DiskTracker catalog they made. Eagle's Next BBS: https://enbbs.org/ 2022 Nov 9 - 10:27pm by mrdav Uploaded MacFormat 13-58 dtc by mrdav - 2022, November 9 - 10:28pm Added an earlier MacFormat 13-58 catalog that overlaps. Don't know where I got it from 2022 Nov 9 - 10:33pm by mrdav added MacHeaven and mac.underdogs catalogs by mrdav - 2022, November 9 - 10:39pm MacHeaven.dtc is the catalog of the old MacHeaven Game Collection. A single archive file is on IA and there is an almost complete set at http://forum.arena80.it/index.php?topic=4678.0 (The link to files beginning with letter X is incorrect). However, the link in the DT Get Info will take you to my complete collection of individually downloadable files mac.theunderdogs.dtc is a catalog of the Underdog Mac Collection. Again the DT Get Info gives you the link EDIT: Also added Macintosh Shareware Games.dtc. This large collection is also on the Internet Archive divided up into alphabetic parcels. But here, the collection is catalogued and you can download individual files from the link given in the dtc. 2022 Nov 10 - 2:41am by mrdav added Macintosh Shareware Games.dtc 2022 Nov 10 - 10:02am by ClockWyzass I consolidated the MacFormat contributions (to reduce the total download links), as well as rolled them into the MEGA-CATALOG and CATALOGS. There were some overlaps, but the naming methods were different and I couldn't be 100% certain that the duplicate disks were identical, so everything was kept. The "MacFormat (all)" catalog also has the complete catalog for the older MacFormat floppies. 2022 Nov 10 - 10:26am by ClockWyzass This PAGE-MAINTENANCE LOG was created and uploaded. 2022 Nov 11 - 5:07am by mrdav uploaded a DTC cataloging various content at various old FTP and Gopher sites, including a comment file 2022 Nov 11 - 11:19am by ClockWyzass renamed the MacFormat contributions folder to indicate its contents 2022 Nov 11 - 4:39pm by mrdav added macgui download catalog for mac software + comment 2022 Nov 12 by ClockWyzass I copied all of the internal and external comments to this PAGE-MAINTENANCE LOG.
