The 3D View rendering speed is influenced by the performance of the graphics card that you use. If rendering is too slow, then check the number of polygons in your layout. Select the menu item "Layout Infomation" and the Layout Information window will appear.

If rendering speed is a problem, and you have custom 3D items in your layout, try to remake them with as few polygons as possible.
