This is the Rhapsody / MacOS X Server port of Quake II, the extremely
popular (and seriously fun) game from id Software. This first public
release does not support hardware rendering. Also, changing levels can
take quite a long time.

Any feedback on this port should be sent to quake2@omnigroup.com. Omni
Development is responsible for this port (with the blessing of id
software); please do not bother id with bug reports etc dealing with this
port.

For more information on Quake II, or if you are looking for versions of
Quake II for platforms other than Rhapsody, see
http://www.idsoftware.com/.

Also, you might be interested in Charon, a basic Internet game server
finder, to help you locate all those Quake II servers on the net. See
http://www.omnigroup.com/Software/Charon/.

Application Requirements

This application requires the Rhapsody Developer Release 2 for PowerPC.

Installation

Rhapsody DR2 does not include a nice graphical installation application,
so to unpack the .tar.gz file, either use the excellent OpenUp application
by Scott Anguish or enter the following command at the command line in
Terminal:
gnutar xzf Quake2.19-1998-12-22-RDR2.tar.gz

This will produce Quake2.app. Place Quake2.app wherever you wish (we
suggest some place like /Local/Applications/Games).

To play, you'll need the Quake 2 levels from the Quake2 CD-ROM, or
possibly the Quake II demo. (The Quake II demo can be downloaded from
http://www.idsoftware.com/quake2/demo.html. You will have to unpack it
under Windows in order to access the demo maps.) Place the .pak file in
QuakeII.app/Resources/baseq2. Other maps can also be added by placing the
appropriate .pak files in this directory. (For capture-the-flag maps,
place the .pak files in QuakeII.app/Resources/ctf.)

Download

Download version 2.19 for the Rhapsody Developer Release 2 on PowerPC
(appx. 650k). Will not work on DR1 or Intel.
