/*text_start*/\C020202Projection Master\C484848 provides intuitive, powerful ways to paint textures directly onto the surfaces of objects, minimizing the need to unwrap and paint upon them.

There are a few advantages to unwrapping the textures and modifying them on a flat canvas, such as converting material attributes or previewing for export. Additionally, some artists simply prefer the 'hands-on' approach to painting unwrapped textures.

ZBrush accommodates this method easily, using the \C020202Texture>Crop And Fill\C484848 button. This button crops the document to match the dimensions of the currently-selected texture, and fills the document with it (including any embedded materials within the texture).

If preferred, the canvas can be filled with the currently-selected texture without first cropping the document. This can be done using the \C020202Layer>Fill\C484848 button (which is identical to the \C020202Color>Fill Layer\C484848 button).

Unwrapping is most easily employed when using any UV mapping method except \C020202AUVTiles\C484848, which minimizes distortion by breaking up the texture into disconnected rectangles -- making it extremely compatible with other rendering programs, but less 'human-readable'.

Once a texture is unwrapped onto the canvas, you can use any of ZBrush's tools to paint, modify, add 3D objects, perform color correction or touch up details.

When it's time to capture the canvas and convert it back into a texture, press \C020202Texture>Grab Doc\C484848. This captures the canvas as a new texture, including all shaded coloring generated by materials and lighting effects. If the document is viewed at exactly 50% size (a.k.a. \C020202AA Half\C484848 size), sophisticated antialiasing is performed, and the texture's dimensions are also halved.

Another way to capture the canvas is with the \C020202MRGBZGrabber\C484848 tool. This tool enables you to grab all or part of the canvas by clicking and dragging. Using its \C020202Shaded Color\C484848 modifier, you can also capture unshaded colors (pure colors unaffected by lighting and materials). Also, if \C020202Draw>MRGB\C484848 is highlighted, you can retain all embedded materials in the new texture.
