/*title_start*/Bump Maps/*title_end*/
/*text_start*/ZBrush uses color bump as a material modifier. This causes darker colors to appear recessed and lighter areas to appear raised (although the effect can also be reversed). ZBrush provides a very simple way of converting your color map to be used as a bump map by other programs: simply press the \C020202Texture>Make Alpha\C484848 button and export the resulting alpha.

Sometimes, however, you might wish to have a custom bump map that is unrelated to the color map. ZBrush makes it easy for you to paint such a map by loading the \C020202BumpViewerMaterial\C484848 (included in the ZMaterials folder). This special material hides the texture that is currently applied to your model, and instead shows the effect of using the texture as a bump map. Using \C020202Projection Master\C484848 and a grayscale color palette, you can now easily paint a bump map and see the effect of your work in real time. When finished, simply perform a \C020202Fix Seams\C484848 operation and export the texture for use in your rendering engine's bump channel.
