/*title_start*/When Materials Touch/*title_end*/
/*text_start*/Materials define different ways that light interacts with a surface. As a result, materials with very different properties can conflict where they come into contact with each other, displaying an abrupt boundary line. Antialiasing (such as when viewing in \C020202AA Half\C484848 mode) can lessen the line's abruptness.

Another way to adjust the abruptness is to create transitional materials. This is possible when both materials are based on the same shaders. Copy one material and paste it into an unused material slot. Adjust the new material's properties so they fall halfway between the properties of the other two. You can then paint this new material between the two conflicting materials.

For smoother blending, you can create more transitional materials.
