/*text_start*/You probably recognize several of ZBrush's tools, since they're similar to tools found in standard paint programs. The \C020202SimpleBrush,\C484848 \C020202PaintBrush,\C484848 \C020202ClonerBrush,\C484848 \C020202Smudge,\C484848 and \C020202Eraser\C484848 perform familiar tasks when used to paint on the ZBrush canvas (this is also called '\C0202022D\C484848' artwork). Using these tools, you can paint and manipulate images using such elements as color, texture, material and shape.

With ZBrush's unique medium of depth-enriched '\C020202pixols\C484848', you can also paint and manipulate using depth. Plus, with a variety of stroke types and other modifiers, you'll find these familiar tools take on applications you've never explored before.

Other tools are used chiefly for painting, and can also interact with depth; these are unique to the ZBrush environment: \C020202AlphaBrush,\C484848 \C020202SingleLayerBrush,\C484848 \C020202RollerBrush,\C484848 and \C020202DirectionalBrush.\C484848

Some tools specifically exploit the depth element of ZBrush pixols, and its interaction with color and other 2D elements. These are sometimes called \C0202022.5D\C484848 (or 'Two-and-a-half D') brushes. These are the \C020202SphereBrush\C484848 (not to be confused with the \C020202Sphere3D\C484848), \C020202HookBrush,\C484848 \C020202SnakeHookBrush,\C484848 \C020202BumpBrush,\C484848 \C020202FiberBrush,\C484848 and \C020202DepthBrush.\C484848

Several tools are intended for color correction or touching up image details after painting. Many of these also have unique effects when combined with the depth element. These are similar to 'filter' effects in other programs; ZBrush enables you to apply them as with any other brush -- by painting the effects in strategic places, or applying with your choice of stroke types. Naturally, you can also choose which specific paint elements these affect, and to what degree -- color channels, depth, material components, etc.
