We'll select a texture. In this example, we'll create a new texture by selecting a width and height in the Texture palette, and pressing the \C020202New\C484848 button.

If a texture had been imported with this object, we could simply select it now. ZBrush retains UV coordinates for textures created outside ZBrush, during import and export.

ZBrush's preferred mapping type is the proprietary \C020202Adaptive UV Tiles\C484848, which maps polygons to rectangles in the texture and minimizes distortion. \C020202Group UV Tiles\C484848 is similar, and clusters these rectangles together if possible, when shared by the same Polygroup.

Both types can be selected in the Tool>Texture sub-palette. When using them, the texture width and height should be powers of 2, i.e. 256, 512, 1024, 2048 or 4096.
