You'll find that ZBrush's responsiveness is extremely fast, even when working with medium- to high-resolution meshes.

Each time the mesh is subdivided, smoothing occurs by default. This means corner points and edges are rounded to form curves. A number of ZBrush controls enable you to manipulate the smoothing process, giving you even greater control over the high-res form which results.
