1. Overview
-----------

Virtual PC OS/2 Additions provide usability, integration and performance
enhancements when running IBM OS/2 as a guest in Connectix
Virtual PC. Even though OS/2 will run without the OS/2 Additions,
it is highly recommended to install the Additions.

The OS/2 Additions consist of several device drivers and executables
that are installed in the OS/2 guest operating system and interface
with the Virtual PC product.

Please note that the OS/2 Additions are the property of InnoTek and
require a license from InnoTek when installing them. They are not
part of Virtual PC from Connectix.

2. Prerequisites
----------------

2.1 Virtual PC
--------------

Currently, Virtual PC 4.0 or later for Windows and OS/2 are supported.
Virtual PC for Mac has not been tested with the OS/2 additions.

2.2 OS/2 Guest
--------------

The OS/2 guest needs to be OS/2 Warp Version 3 or higher.

The recommended version of OS/2 is 4.51 and 4.52 (MCP). These are
the supported versions. For any other version, you need special
support contracts with InnoTek. Warp 3 support is only available on
a special bid basis.

3. Installation
---------------

3.1 General
-----------

Currently, the installation is partly manual. The final version will
contain a graphical installer that can also operate unattended.

3.2 Base Drivers
----------------

Copy the following files to a directory on your system (assuming this
is C:\VPC):

- vpcdrv.sys
- vpcmouse.sys
- vpcmap.ifs
- vpcserv.exe

Make the following changes to your CONFIG.SYS. We assume that you installed
the drivers into C:\VPC.

- add "DEVICE=C:\VPC\VPCDRV.SYS"
- add "IFS=C:\VPC\VPCMAP.IFS"
- add "RUN=C:\VPC\VPCSERV.EXE"
- replace "DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\MOUSE.SYS" by
  "DEVICE=C:\VPC\VPCMOUSE.SYS"

3.2 WinOS/2 Host Mouse Pointer
------------------------------

The WinOS/2 Host Mouse Pointer allows you to use pointer integration when
in WinOS/2 fullscreen mode. In order to install, copy hostmaus.drv to
C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM (assuming C: is your boot drive) and edit
C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM.INI.

- find the [boot] section

- find the line "mouse.drv=mouse.drv"

- change it to "mouse.drv=hostmaus.drv"

- add "host.mouse.drv=mouse.drv" as the next line

3.4 VPCGRADD graphics driver
----------------------------

As the last step, you have to install a special graphics driver to support
mouse pointer integration and provide better performance. The installation
is fully automated and can be invoked by

setup.cmd VPC

Afterwards, please reboot the OS/2 guest system.

4. Functionality
----------------

Currently, the following features are provided by the OS/2 Additions:

- Mouse Pointer Integration. This allows you to move the mouse pointer
inside and outside of the OS/2 guest without capturing and uncapturing.

- Better graphics performance. The driver has been specifically tuned for
best performance with the Virtual PC graphics subsystem.

- More graphics resolutions. All resolutions supported by Virtual PC
(up to 1600x1200) are now available in the OS/2 guest.

- Shared Folders. You can map any directory on your host system (even
remote filesystems such as network drives) as a drive letter in your
  OS/2 guest.

- Window close on guest shutdown. This feature is disabled by default.
When entering "vpcserv.exe closeonshutdown true" in the OS/2 guest
system, the Virtual Machine window will be automatically closed when
shutting down or rebooting the OS/2 guest. Note that currently, the
shutdown option in the Virtual PC close dialog is not available for
OS/2 guests. This will be provided in a later release of the Additions.
