Sorry! for Apple IIgs (5 1/5" disk), IIc, IIe (128k) - Documentation by TC Pete
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GameTek's computer version of the Sorry! game gives the whole family a chance to carry on the 60-year tradition of Parker Brothers' board game. Draw your electronic computer card and make your moves. Be the first one Home with your four playing tokens - but watch out for the other players and those slides, or you'll be Sorry! Play with friends or against intelligent, computer-selected opponents.

Object:
------
The object is to travel around the board from Start to Home. The winner is the
first player to bring all four tokens Home.

Getting Started:
---------------
1. Turn your computer off. Insert the Sorry! game disk into your computer's disk drive and turn the computer on. After the Sorry! title screen appears, wait for the message to flip the disk over. Press any key to continue.

2. The game board appears with a player-selection insert.
  a. Players choose their colors and enter their names.
  b. Use the left arrow to correct spelling mistakes.
  c. The player who enters his or her name first goes first in the game.

3. To play against a computer opponent(s), type "C" next to the color you want the computer to play, then press Return. (As many as four computer opponents can play.)

4. If fewer than four opponents are playing, press Return after each color not being used in the game.

Starting to Play:
----------------
1. When your name appears on the screen, press any key to draw a card. If you cannot use a card, press any key, and play will continue with the next player.

2. You must draw a "1" or a "2" in order to move a token from Start onto the board. All turns will be forfeited until you draw a "1" or a "2".

3. Each time you draw a card after you have entered the game, you must follow the instructions for that card. The computer will move your token as you direct it.

Selecting Tokens:
----------------
To select a token to be moved, press the Space Bar until the pointer rests next
to the token you want to move. Then press Return.

Joystick:
--------
1. Either of the buttons found at the bottom of the joystick can be used to identify tokens to be moved.

2. The center or fire button enters your selection.

3. Exception: You must still use the keyboard arrows to split moves between tokens or to select options when playing the "10" or "11" cards.

Game Moves:
----------

1. Cards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 12.

  a. When one of these cards is displayed, press any key and the computer will point at one or your tokens.
  b. Select a token, and the computer will move that token the number of spaces indicated on the card.

2. Card 7

You may use the "7" card to move a token forward 7 spaces, as in Step 1. If you have more than one token able to move on the board, the "7" card offers you the option of splitting your moves between two tokens. To split the moves:

  a. Select the first token and use the arrow keys to increase or decrease the number of spaces indicated.
  b. The computer will move the first token the number of spaces indicated.
  c. Select the second token.
  d. The computer will move the second token the remaining number of spaces.

3. Card 10

When you draw a "10" card, press any key. If the positions of your tokens allow for a choice, you may use the arrow keys to move forward 10 or backward 1 after selecting a token.

4. Card 11

When you draw a "11" card, press any key. If the positions of your tokens allow for a choice, move forward 11 spaces or switch places with an opponent.

  a. To move one of your tokens forward 11 spaces, press the down arrow key, then Return. Select your token.
  b. To switch with an opponent's token, press the up arrow key, then Return.
    1) Select one of your tokens.
    2) Select an opponent's token.
    3) Press Return to complete the switch.

5. The Sorry! Card

The Sorry! card lets you take one token from your Start and exchange places with an opponent's token on the board.

  a. When you draw a Sorry! card, select your token first. (You must choose a token in the Start circle.)
  b. Select an opponent's token. Press Return for the computer to move the tokens.

6. Slides

A token which lands by exact count on the triangle at the beginning of a slide of a different color, slides directly to the circle at the end of that slide.

  a. Tokens do not slide on slides of their own color.
  b. All tokens of any color that occupy spaces on that slide are sent back to their Start circle.

7. Sending Opponents Back to Start

The computer automatically sends an opponent back to Start when:
  a. You land by exact count on a space occupied by a token of one of your opponents.
  b. You draw and use a Sorry! card.
  c. You eliminate an opponent's token during a slide.

8. Diamond Squares
  a. No token may move forward over the diamond square of its own color.
  b. A token may move backward over the diamond square of its own color when:
    1) A card directing a backward move is drawn.
    2) The token is being replaced with an opponent's token.

9. Moving Backward

A player may use a "4" card or a "10" card to move backward. Any player who has moved a token backward at least two squares beyond his or her stard may use subsequent turns to enter the Safety Zone without having to go around the board.

10. Safety Zones
  a. A token may not enter the Safety Zone of any other color.
  b. A token may not enter the Safety Zone on a backward move, but it may move out of the Safety Zone on a backward move.
  c. A token cannot be replaced by an opponent while it is in the Safety Zone or in the Home area.

11. Home
  a. On the draw of a card with the exact number of spaces needed to reach it.
  b. One a split card using the exact number of spaces.

(A token which reaches Home cannot be moved again for the rest of the game.)

Hints:
-----
When you need help deciding how to move a token, the computer can offer you a hint as to which move is the "best". To get a hint, press the "T" key. A message appears offering a hint for a good move. Press any key and the current card will reappear along with a flashing "best" token to be moved.

Winning the Game:
----------------
The first player to bring all four tokens Home is the winner, and the game ends.
